On Dit can today confirm that electronic student elections for positions on the AUU Board and SRC will not be going ahead in week 6 of Semester 2.
In an email to candidates, the Returning Officer detailed how the upcoming elections would not be going ahead as they feared that to do so “would breach the election rules and cast doubt over any results.”

While not specifying what the breach entailed, On Dit understands that alterations were made to s 18 and 20 in the election rules by the AUU Board, and were unable to be approved before the appointment of a Returning Officer.
This action allegedly contravened s 52.1 of the rules which states “No amendment to these Rules made after the appointment of the Returning Officer will have effect until the conclusion of the election period.”
This alleged breach was brought to the Election Tribunal’s attention by one of the enrolled candidates.
Elections are will now be held in the week beginning 19th of October, and all current nomination are now held to be invalid.
More to come.
