OnlyFans, Management and Empowerment w/ Sarah Guerra

Editor Sienna Sulicich spoke to OnlyFans creator and owner of OnlyFans management agency, Love Sarah Management, Sarah Guerra.

I started doing OnlyFans back in August 2020. Like everyone else, I was stuck at home in lockdown without a job. I had previously been working in the community as a disability support worker, but due to having a compromised immune system I had to give it up for my own safety when COVID hit. I had grown quite a following on TikTok and Instagram just doing cute little outfit videos, and one of my friends suggested I start an OnlyFans to monetise my following. I did. At first, I was only posting cute lewd/lingerie content, but the more I got into it the more comfortable I became. I’ve been creating explicit content for maybe a year now.

Sex work is becoming more common, or at least more discussed, why do you think this is?

I think that, like for me, the pandemic had many people searching for a viable way to make money online from home. With the rise of OnlyFans and other sites like it, sex work has been thrown into the mainstream eye.

Sex work is still seen as a taboo subject despite the transparency of online creators. In the future, where do you see sex work going?

Sex work is one of the oldest professions in history, and like it or not, it will continue long into the future. I would like to see sex work become even more mainstream and accepted as a valid occupation. I also hope to see more policies put in place to make it safer for those working in it. I see different OnlyFans-esque Fansites popping up constantly, and I think it will become common practice for online influencers to also have a pay-per-view site for die hard fans as part of their content offerings.

It can be said that sex work has become a lively profession for many queer people. Why do you think this is?

I think there are far more closeted queer people out there than we know. Especially when it comes to online sex work, sites like OnlyFans give these people a safe and anonymous way to explore their sexuality and learn about themselves in private, with the assistance of their favourite creators.

Sex work is often misunderstood as a last resort, or something to be embarrassed about. How does your work make you feel?

I appreciate that in some circumstances, sex work is a last resort for some people, but in my experience this is not the case for most, especially when it comes to online sex work. I feel like the mindset of sex work being something shameful comes from purity culture, where a woman who does not save herself for her future husband is considered to be dirty or unpure and is thus shamed and shunned by her community. Shaming women for their bodies and sexuality has always been used as a way to control women. As we push for equality and body autonomy, more and more people are rejecting this way of thinking.

Becoming a sex worker has been one of the best choices I have ever made. I have never felt more empowered or confident within myself. In learning how to do this job, I have had to learn more about myself and my body which has taught me to love myself as I am. What could be better than that?

I often receive comments, almost exclusively from men, about how I should get a ‘real job’. There are so many people out there who think this job is just a matter of taking photos of yourself in the nude, posting them online and then immediately making money. This is just not the case. Just like any business, OnlyFans requires a lot of hard work to be successful. You are the content creator, editor, social media manager, stylist, bookkeeper, hair and make up artist, photographer, marketer… The list goes on. Unless you already have a rabid following on another platform, OnlyFans is rarely a get rich overnight scheme, and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is selling something or has no idea what they’re talking about.

I understand you assist other creators with managing their accounts and portfolios, could you tell the readers more about what you do and your goals?

Yes! I started my management agency in 2022, with the goal to support other creators in the sex work industry. We supply our creators with all the tools they need to succeed on their Fansites, and implement personalised strategies on their behalf. Some of our offerings include: social media management and marketing, branding, content creation coaching, chat management, content organisation, and much more.

Love Sarah Management came to life after an awful personal experience I had with a male-run agency. They treated me like cattle and would abuse me if I ever questioned them about anything; it was not a great time in my life. My short time with them made me realise that I actually did know what I was doing in this industry and that I could do it better than them, and thus Love Sarah Management was born.

Our entire ethos is built around being kind and supportive so we can grow and make money together, rather than assuming complete control over our creators. We strive to ensure that every strategy we use is made in consultation with our models, and that their wants and needs are always met when it comes to the image of them being portrayed online. Our company motto is ’we all do better when we work together’, and in my experience this could not be more true.

We offer paid services for full account management, but if you are just starting out and are looking for some help on how to grow, we also have a free help Discord server which is packed full of information and a helpful community.
